GLIMNE'S GAMBLING ANECDOTES

When the US Presidential race was on in 2008 between Barack Obama and John McCain, a London-based businessman – his name was never disclosed – caused headlines when he in September placed a £10 bet with a bookmaker firm that Obama would take over as manager of the Premier League football team West Ham, after the then newly-fired Alan Curbishley! The bookmaker firm offered him odds of 10,000 to 1 on the wager, and their spokesman commented that the punter probably ”just wanted to be able to show his American friends and clients a betting slip with the Illinois Senator’s name”. The spokesman also added: “But if Obama loses out on that one and the position is still up for grabs, you never know.”
